Merrell at the END of the Alaskan Highway. Yeah!!!

August 8
We left Tok, Alaska yesterday Morning on our way to Valdez. We will stay there a couple of days before we head to Anchorage. We are picking Howard up at the airport in Anchorage on Wednesday.
It was rainy yesterday, but the road wasn't too bad. Merrell decided he wanted to go to Delta Junction first and then cut down towards Valdez. Delta Junction is the END of the Alaskan Highway and Merrell wanted to say that he had driven the whole way. It added a hundred or so miles to our drive, but was well worth it. Carolee and I went to a quilt shop in Delta Junction and looked at some pretty quilts and fabric and had a nice talk with the owner.

The drive through this part of Alaska was un-spectactular (is that a word?) to say the least. It was miles and miles of mostly pine trees. We did really enjoy seeing the Alaskan Pipeline. We also saw a couple of pretty spots along the way. Especially the snow capped mountains and the mountain lakes when we were getting close to our camping spot. It is much prettier the further we drive. And, there is CIVILIZATION, though it's not exactly like home. Houses are few and far between and mostly very small houses. There are lots of boarded up and abandoned houses and businesses. The people here are very nice and friendly and willing to answer any questions.

We got to the campground around 7 or so last night and slept in this morning. We're getting ready to head out on our way to Valdez. I hope we have internet access when we get there. I guess we'll find out, won't we?? LOL
Catch ya later......................
