Day 44-August 21, 2008

Day 44
August 21, 2008
Ship Creek RV Park, Anchorage, AK
Toured Downtown Anchorage WALKING!!!

Well, Merrell called the Saturn Dealer and they told him to bring the car up for them to check it out. It's only a few blocks from the RV park. They even drove him and Howard back down here to the Park.
They called a little while later and it is the Alternator, plus we need new brakes and rotors all the way around. They hope to have it fixed soon. They had to overnight the rear drums, so hopefully they will be in tomorrow morning and they can get it fixed by tomorrow evening. If not, we're fine here in Anchorage. They have a trolley that comes to the Park and it will take you uptown or wherever you need to go.

Downtown is also within walking distance. I know that for a fact because I, meaning ME, Donna, walked it today!!! :>) We decided to walk to downtown Anchorage and go to the visitor's center. Well, we walked and we walked and we walked.............. Get the picture??? Teeheehee It was well worth it though. The flowers are absolutely beautiful. We took lots of pictures and flowers were in most all of them. Chuck wasn't feeling well, but the rest of us went.

Howard left about 8:30 to catch his plane home. He called a taxi to take him to the airport. It's raining here, so I hope they don't have any delays.

We've been watching Centennial for the past few nights. I have the boxed set. It is 12 DVD's, so it's quite long but it's a wonderful movie. It starts when the trappers first started exploring the west in the 1700's and tells the story of our country from that time forward. It is based on the book written by James Mitchner. I have watched it a couple of times already, but it's good enough that you can watch it over and over without being bored.

I also brought Roots to watch in case we don't have satellite or any tv reception. I really like the movies that are series.

Well, I think this about catches us up on our trip so far. Maybe I won't get so far behind next time.

Catch ya later,
The Gang

Carolee and Donna in Downtown Anchorage with all the beautiful flowers

And if you want to know how I knew that??? I asked at the Visitor's Center.
Isn't it beautiful??

Donna and Merrell in downtown Anchorage at one of the MANY flower gardens

More of the hanging baskets of Lobelia. They had them EVERYWHERE.

Let me tell you a little story about Howard............. We were walking around downtown Anchorage and he sees this beautiful little eskimo woman. We were busy looking at flowers and turned around and he had disappeared with her. I did have time to snap this picture of them together before they disappeared!!!!

Luckily, Carolee went searching and found him around the corner at a flower bed!!! Teeheehee
Actually, the eskimo woman was a wooden one standing outside one of the stores. Can you believe how lifelike she was????

Howard and Merrell with a LARGE wooden bear. They weren't a bit afraid of this one!!!

Merrell beside the Anchorage Visitor's Center. It's a really neat log building with a sod roof. As you can see it is surrounded by flower beds.

Front view of the Visitors Center. I wanted to bring the whole building and all of the flower beds home with me.
